Quickfire concepts - Underwater Troll - Week 4

Underwater troll – Research:

For the fourth week I have decided to choose the theme of underwater and the descriptor of troll. I like how different these two are and whilst concepting it will be great to have a challenge. As this week the main focus is faces I will just focus on the face and maybe some of the body shapes.

Above are both of my mood boards. Here I have picked out images to do with the theme “Underwater” and the descriptor “Troll”. I like all of the images I have picked out and hope to use them as reference whilst creating my concepts.

Above I have chosen a colour palette to base my concepts on. Obviously underwater things will be very blue and green so I will be using them for the overall tint. But as I am focusing on faces for this week I won’t be using this.
Face drawing:
This week I hope to create concepts like the one below showing the front of the face and the side, as it would look great. If I use guidelines I can create this.

Cultural Influences:

The shape of someone’s face can vary from their race. For example someone who is Asian to someone who is Caucasian. The images below show different face shapes. I will incorporate different cultural differences within my concepts, so there is some sort of difference.
Three Rules:

Must have horns

Must have large facial features

Must be troll themed

Concepts

Here are some concepts I have done over the past week.

Quickfire concepts - Fairytale Leader - Week 3

Fairy-tale leader research

For the third week I have decided to concept fairy-tale leader. I like these choices as I can be very creative with it. Below are mood boards of fairy tales and leaders that I have created.

Above I have created two mood boards of the theme and the descriptor that I have chosen. I like all the photos I have chosen and will use them as reference whilst I am making my concepts.

Here I have picked my colour palette. I like the bright calm colours used as it feels very relaxing and I hope to try and incorporate some of these colours within my concepts, but it’s not my main priority.

Basic Research:

Fairy tales are most commonly known throughout books but are also known throughout films and TV shows. Some popular fairy tales are the little mermaid, little red riding hood and chicken little.

Leaders are also shown throughout films such as the film “small soldiers” where the character “Chip Hazard” plays a soldier leader type of character.  There are hundreds and hundreds of fairy tales and leaders known to date.

Three rules:

1.) Has to have wings or a cape

2.) Have a special power/weapon/wand

3.) Must have different clothing on all concepts.

Above I have chosen my three rules. I think these rules are suitable for the game I have chosen, therefore will stick to them all throughout this week.

Concepts:

Here are some of the concepts that I have created throughout this week. I have also made silhouettes of these concepts and I think they have worked very well.

Quickfire Concepts - Horror Witch - Week 2

Horror Witch – Research

For this second stage in the assignment I have picked the theme Horror and the descriptor witch. I like the sound of these two as witches are normally seen as horror characters so it will be good to create different types of horror witches.

Above is my first mood board which is for the theme of Horror that I have chosen. I simply typed in “Horror theme” into Google and picked out these images which I think best portrays the Horror theme. There are pictures of Haunted houses, Pumpkins, Werewolf’s and they all link into the horror theme, I just need to link these in to make a witch.

My next mood board I have picked out a load of images of different types of witches that I could include in my concepts and which I will take inspiration from in my concepts.

These are the colours I have chosen for the horror theme. They are great colours and would show off the theme well. I am not concentrated on just the colours but more the sketches and concepts.

Horror Research:

Horror is used lots in modern day culture within TV, film and books. When researching about horror the main point that comes across is “Horror films” so Horror films are most popular type of Horror thing within the internet.
What a horror films basically is, is a genre that effects the audience in an emotional way through fear. They do this with ghosts, vampires, Murderers, Cannibals, zombies, evil witches etc.
Horror is also shown in lots of games. Popular games like five nights at Freddy’s include horror with jump scares which are parts of a game or film which would jump out at the audience to give them a huge fright which would almost immediately get their heart rate going fast.

Three Rules:

Rule 1: Has to have some sort of flying object (a broom but more creative)

Rule 2: Has to have headgear

Rule 3: Has to have some sort of power (shown in the notes and in the concepts)

I have chosen three rules above which I think are very suitable for the theme and descriptor. I wanted my horror witch to have some sort of flying gear as most witches are known for flying. I also wanted but in my head I need the witch to have some sort of head gear, and finally a magical power to show the witch is magical with maybe a horror power which would look great.

Concepts:

Here are just a few of the concepts I have made (I have made more). I have created different concepts on each of my figures, I have then made silhouettes of them by using Photoshop, I like these designs and think they suit the theme and the descriptor very well.

 More Concepts:

Here are some more concepts that I have created. I have made both men and women concepts in this stage of the concepts.

Quickfire Concepts - Steampunk Musician - Week 1

Steampunk Musician – Research

For the first stage in this assignment I have picked the theme of steampunk and the descriptor of a musician. I have started by researching into the theme of steampunk and how it could be shown throughout musical instruments, people and just generally gathering ideas for a steampunk musician. Below are mood boards showing these ideas.

I have made two mood boards above, one about musical instruments and the other about steampunk people. I have picked all of these images to reference whilst creating my 2D concepts of a steampunk musician. My plan for creating my 2D concepts is too experiment with both a guitar and a piano for the instruments as they seem to be the easiest to incorporate the steampunk theme into. For the musician himself he will look steam punky but also needs to look like a musician, so when he/she is on the piano they will be wearing smart clothes like a tuxedo or when he/she is playing a guitar they could be casual steampunk as well as very rocky type of steampunk which will be great to experiment with.

I have picked out these steampunk colours here so I get a rough idea of the materials used in steampunk environments, people etc. I hope to try to incorporate these colours into the concepts but it’s not my main priority.

Steampunk Research:

The theme of steampunk is very popular in modern day culture with cafes being steampunk themed, in fashion steampunk is very popular as well as in games and films. The main point in steampunk is to show off the Victorian era and how it would have looked like in the future within a steam powered or post-apocalyptic world.

There are various types of steampunk there is not just one type of steampunk. Most characters and environments are all different within their styles so whilst making my concepts I will be sure to make all of the styles different, as throughout my mood board all of the steampunk characters are different.

There are currently lots of steampunk musicians and bands.

Some include Abney Park, Steam powered giraffe and Frenchy and the punk.

My Rules:

Rule 1: Has to be an older person. Elderly man or woman

Rule 2: Has to wear some sort of head gear (like a top hat)

Rule 3:  Musical instrument has to be steampunk themed (not just the musician)

Throughout this first stage I hope to make many concepts from the genre and descriptor to the best of my ability with quick sketches and long concepts.

Concepts:

Here are some of my concepts that I have created I like how I have incorporated small easy sketches and then gone onto make more detailed concepts of my chosen theme and descriptor. I did find this quite challenging but also fun to experiment with two random genres and descriptors.
Within the images I have made little notes of maybe what colours they would be, If they follow my rules well etc.
